Bergen Tutors was started by a math teacher with 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience in Bergen County.
One thing kept coming up.
What parents actually wanted wasn’t a tutor. It was the right teacher.
Someone who understood their child’s school, knew the curriculum, and could be trusted. And finding that person was harder than it should’ve been.
Most of the time it came down to word of mouth. A guidance counselor sends an email. A parent asks another parent. Someone posts on Facebook: “Looking for a math tutor for my daughter.” And the comments start:
“Call Sarah.”
“I know someone.”
“Here’s a phone number.”
There are great teachers all over New Jersey willing to tutor, and thousands of families looking for them. There just wasn’t a good place connecting the two. So Bergen Tutors was built to be one.
Every tutor here is a working New Jersey teacher. Not an anonymous name from a big marketplace — someone who knows your child’s school and knows how to teach.
Teaching is a profession. These are people who keep up their training year after year. It isn’t someone who happens to be good at a subject; it’s what they do for a living. You can see their experience and where they teach before you ever write to them.
Checked against a school-issued staff ID and their school’s own public website before a profile goes live.
Not on the first session, not on the fiftieth. What you arrange with your tutor stays between the two of you.
There is no promoted placement to buy. A full schedule doesn’t push a teacher down the list either.
Browse as long as you like and write to a teacher directly. We never ask you to make a profile.
Teachers want to tutor close to home. Nobody wants Route 17 at 4pm after a full day of teaching.
And work reaches teachers the same way it reaches parents — through whoever happens to know your name. That shouldn’t be what decides it. It also doesn’t sit right that a company would take a cut of what a teacher earns for making an introduction. Teachers do the teaching. They should keep what they earn.
Parents are looking for great teachers. Teachers are willing to tutor. Until now, the two finding each other came down to luck. That is the whole reason this exists.
